Our Featured author is Phillip Hoose is the widely-acclaimed author of books, essays, stories, songs, and articles, including the National Book Award winning book, Claudette Colvin: Twice Toward Justice and recently received the Sibert award for Moonbird He is also the author of the multi-award winning title, The Race to Save the Lord God Bird, the National Book Award Finalist We Were There Too!: Young People in U.S. History, and the Christopher Award-winning manual for youth activism It’s Our World Too!.

April Pulley Sayre is an award-winning author of 60 children’s books including Here Come the Humpbacks!; Trout Are Made of Trees; The Bumblebee Queen; and One Is a Snail, Ten Is a Crab. Her book Vulture View received ALA’s Theodor “Seuss” Geisel Honor Award. Stars Beneath Your Bed: the Surprising Story of Dust won the AAAS/Subaru/SB&F Prize for Excellence in Science Books. Sayre is a three time winner of the John Burroughs Award for nature writing for young people.

Youth Services Librarians Learned all about Tweens at the recently held Youth Services Symposium, which featured author, Elizabeth Cody Kimmel, professor and author, Teri Lesesne, and librarians Tiffany Baducci and Brianne Wilkins-Bester.  In this photo, librarians listen to Teri present information about tween development.

The ALA Youth Media Awards were announced January 28th at the ALA Midwinter Meeting In Seattle, WA.
