DML is in the process of renovating or replacing all branch facilities and the Main Library due to the passage of a $187 million bond issue. We are seeking an enthusiastic, collaborative, self-aware, professional leader who values and understands the public library’s role and contributions to the success of youth in our community. The successful candidate will possess excellent communication, management and advocacy skills. This leader will have extensive experience providing and directing strategic planning for services to youth in public libraries. Essential Job Duties
• Establishes and implements goals and objectives for Youth Services and Programming which support the Library’s mission.
• Develops and maintains rapport with community organizations. Identifies library needs in the community, plans and provides youth services and programs to meet these needs.
• Hires, supervises, monitors, and evaluates the development and utilization of direct reports. Assists branch and department managers with hiring and evaluating the development and utilization of youth services staff.
• Meets regularly with youth services staff individually. Analyzes requests and problems and presents recommendations to Deputy Director. Serves as the primary channel of communication between the Deputy Director and youth services staff.
• Regularly works in Main Children’s and Teen rooms, branches, and Outreach Services to maintain knowledge of Library operations and to ensure the efficient, effective delivery of youth services to patrons.
• Works with the Collection Development Office on the evaluation, development and maintenance of the children’s and teen collections of print, non-print, electronic materials, information resources and technology for youth.
• Oversees system-wide programming; directly coordinates system-wide Youth Services programming. Plans and conducts training sessions for Children’s and Teen Librarians.
• Plans, prepares agenda, and chairs Children’s Librarian’s and Teen Services regular meetings.
• Ensures the establishment, preparation, and implementation of budgets for programming and youth services.

Job Qualifications
• Ability to plan, schedule, and oversee operations and personnel of Youth Services.
• Thorough knowledge of professional principles, practices, and methods of library science and administration. Specialized knowledge of children’s and teen materials and programming.
• Knowledge of management principles required to coordinate a system-wide function. Ability to hire, train, evaluate, motivate and lead staff.
• Ability to write proposals, reports, and business correspondence clearly and informatively.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from staff, patrons, and members of the community, individually and in a group setting.
• Ability to prepare and administer budgets.
• MLS from an A.L.A. accredited program. Four to ten years of increasingly responsible experience at a professional level that included work in youth services with a minimum of three years supervisory experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Compensation and Benefits: Pay range minimum is $80,263 annually with an exceptional benefits package.
