POSITION TITLE: Reference & Adult Services Librarian
SALARY GRADE: Librarian Supervisor—Starting Salary $24,000–$30,000 commensurate with education and experience.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The Kinsman Free Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and motivated team player to serve as our Reference & Adult Services Librarian. This person will be responsible for identifying and interpreting user needs, providing patrons with reference and readers’ advisory services, providing computer and digital assistance and training for staff and patrons, and planning and implementing Library programs for adults. This person will work under the general direction of the Library Director and will be responsible for supervising Library Aides as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree in Library & Information Science or related field is required; previous experience working in a public library is preferred.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Maintains regular & punctual attendance; provides reference, readers’ advisory, and referral services to patrons, in person and by telephone; provides technical/reference support to staff; performs manual and automated bibliographic searches; maintains familiarity with the collection, makes selections of materials to be added to, weeded out, and withdrawn from the collection; works under supervision of the Director to make materials selections for the adult non-fiction and reference collections; supervises Library Aides as assigned in the absence of the Library Director; plans and implements programs for adults; explains basic library functions, services and resources to the public; operates and maintains library equipment; collects data for statistical analysis and reports; prepares reports for submission to the Library Director; keeps informed of current events and of developments in the library field; maintains current knowledge of library technology; takes advantage of state and regional opportunities for continuing education to keep knowledge of library practices and procedures current; performs related work as required.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: Assists in maintaining inventory of the collection; represents the library at professional and community meetings; is responsible for opening, closing & securing the building when designated librarian-in-charge; performs circulation duties as needed; provides one-on-one technology and computer instruction to patrons as needed as well as prepares and schedules regular technology and computer instruction sessions for adult patrons; works closely with the Director to make public relations postings and handles social media maintenance for the Library; performs other duties as may be assigned.
