JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under direct supervision, the Page II shelves and maintains library materials, performs material searches, assists in light clerical tasks and assists with circulation desk duties.

QUALIFICATIONS:
High school education or equivalent.  Must demonstrate physical agility and strength to lift and shelve books and periodicals.

KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of library practices and procedures*; basic automation systems*.
May be acquired after hire

ABILITY
Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form; read, copy and record words and figures; sort items into categories according to established methods; deal with problems involving several variables in familiar context; answer routine telephone inquiries from the public; demonstrate physical strength and agility to  lift, re-shelve books; and stand on ladder.

An individual who poses a direct threat to the health and safety of others in the workplace will be deemed not qualified for this position.

  • Organizes library materials for shelving according to proper shelving practices in assigned department*
  • Transports library materials from one location to another*
  •   Shelves library materials according to the proper filing order*
  •  Reads shelves for correct placement of library materials*
  •  Straightens shelves and shifts library materials*
  •  Cleans shelves and materials, as needed*
  •  Assists with minor mending and re-labeling of library materials
  •  Removes badly damage materials and routes for mending
  • Clears work tables of unused materials and re-shelves
  • Clears return carts
  • Empties book depositories and assists with preparation for shelving30%    SUPPORT SERVICES
  •     Fills out book orders*
  •    Assists in clerical tasks, as requested
  •   Sets up meeting room for programs and meeting*
  •   Assists in operation of audio-visual equipment*
  •  Responds to directional questions and refers other questions to appropriate staff

  •  Assists patrons with carrying books and other materials, as needed
  •  Assists patrons in using library equipment
  •  Retrieves materials for the public, upon request
  •  Assists with circulation desk duties, as needed
