EXCEPTIONS will be granted for an internal applicant applying for a lateral transfer where the internal applicant is already in a position that required the same level of education as the posted vacancy.

3. Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited college or university.

4. Four years post MLS library experience.

5. Two years supervisory or lead worker experience in a union environment.

6. Experience in an urban environment preferred.

7. Plans and manages the day-to-day operations of the Branch.

8. Supervises staff including planning and directing the work, and evaluating performance.

9. Hires, trains and motivates staff.

10. Performs public service including reference work consistent with RUSA guidelines, reader’s advisory, assisting patrons to find materials, use materials, and reserve materials, and facilitating computer use and the use of Library equipment.

11. Performs collection development and maintenance including selecting items for acquisition, transfer, and withdrawal in consultation with Collection Management staff.

12. Promotes the use of the Library including developing collaborative relationships with individuals, community and professional groups, attending community meetings, presenting programs, participating in speaking engagements, conducting Library tours and class visits, and facilitating discussion groups.

13. Develops, implements, and supervises Branch and Library programming for adults, teens and children.

14. Compiles and interprets statistics, and produces narrative reports of Branch activities.

15. Interprets Library policy and procedure for the staff and public.

16. Ensures compliance with the collective bargaining agreement in consultation with Human Resources.

17. Prepares budget requests and administrative reports.

18. Determines priorities and schedules Branch staff.

19. Ability to demonstrate courtesy, tact, and effectiveness in dealing with others.

20. Ability to interact with coworkers and patrons in a manner respectful of abilities, cultures, and diversity.

21. Ability to ensure confidentiality.
