Will help to support and maintain library computers, network and other technological hardware and software. Will also provide end user help desk support for library supplied software and hardware to staff and patrons.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Set up and distribute staff workstations with all needed software and hardware to actively participate in the library network environment.
Install network and non-network printers to be used by staff and patrons.
Perform preventive maintenance and cleaning of library technology in order to keep equipment running with an uptime greater than 99%.
Perform troubleshooting and repair of hardware, software and user related issues in order to return a working environment to staff and patrons.
Maintain and monitor network usage to provide an uptime greater than 99%.
Provide technical training to staff and patrons by providing sessions on hardware and software usage, as well as troubleshooting skills to increase productivity.
Maintain servers by managing user accounts, passwords, profiles and storage files as well as other Active Directory related resources to provide a working network environment for staff and patrons.
Support staff dealing with the library automation software by providing help desk support as well as instructional training for the automation software.
Support staff usage of Microsoft Office related software with training, one on one help, or electronic means.
Monthly support and reading of all library copiers and printers.
Answer phones and provide requested information or direct calls to the appropriate source.
Assist others with office equipment such as faxes and photocopiers.
Provide back up to others within the library functions related to your training.
Attend workshops, seminars, and professional conferences.
Perform additional duties as requested.
The position typically has regular contact with Library staff and may also have contact with external customers, vendors and patrons on an occasional or regular basis. Contacts normally involve the exchange of routine information. Communications may sometimes contain confidential/or sensitive information necessitating discretion. Occasional formal presentations to groups may be part of the job responsibilities.
The position generally operates from established and well-known procedures. The position typically is responsible for solving problems relating to own workflow and processes and also works with others to solve problems at the department level. The position may have some responsibility for developing new programs or services that impact the immediate work area or department. The position involves a moderate degree of complexity considering the variety of demands placed on it and the level of detail involved. The position operates independently with minimal supervision. The position encounters recurring work situations with occasional variation from the norm. Decisions are typically made within specific organizational policy constraints and guidelines.
Position involves frequent interruptions with maximum flexibility required. The position foresees issues associated with own work and identifies future needs for supplies, equipment, or resources. May also consider the work of others and participate in operational planning at the department level. Decisions typically affect the department or building, but may on occasion have an impact across the entire library system. A supervisor or manager checks work on a regular basis.
The position is responsible for modeling and promoting organizational values within the library and as a representative of the organization in the community.
Two-year Associate Degree in Computer Technology, Electronic Technology or equivalent work-related experience, which provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities listed below.
One to two years of related work experience.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY, AND SKILLS:
Knowledge and support of the principles of intellectual freedom.*
Working knowledge of general library operations, functions, and services provided.*
Knowledge of various computer hardware: PC workstations, servers, printers, print servers and various other business related computer and technological equipment.
Working knowledge of both wired and wireless LANs and WANs network environments.
Working knowledge of a Windows Server Active Directory network environment including profiles, users, groups, organizational Units and network shares.
Ability to update system drivers, utilities, patches as well as virus and security software is a must.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Internet explorer and Windows operating systems XP – 2012 server.
Considerable knowledge of operations, functions, policies and procedures of an IT department.
Considerable knowledge of common software program functionality.
Considerable knowledge of database systems such as SIRSI, OCLC, Access, MYSQL, SQL and others used by department.
Working knowledge on Internet based research.
Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with a diverse population.
Train and assist others.
Establish and maintain positive interpersonal relationships with staff, patrons and other “customers.”
Organize and prioritize multiple tasks and maintain professional demeanor in stressful situations. Maintain flexibility in an environment with many interruptions.
Maintain accurate and detailed records.
Resolve problems which may include patrons or vendors.
Work a varied schedule, which is subject to change with reasonable advance notice, including nights and weekends.

Position typically requires frequent verbal communication, hearing, sitting, reaching, keyboarding, and repetitive motion of hands/wrists, handling, grasping, and use of visual senses. Position may require pushing and pulling of up to 150 pounds and lifting and carrying from 5-50 pounds.
Work may be performed in a variety of environments such as office, library or shipping area. Work typically involved extensive close work (eyestrain), PC monitoring, and may require constant or frequent sitting, standing or heavy lifting. Travel among several locations is necessary. A valid Ohio driver’s license and proof of insurance is required. Employee must be able to provide own transportation. There may be some exposure to angry or hostile individuals.
Hours: 40 hours per week, including evenings & weekends
Pay rate: $17.15 per hour
