Adult Services Coordinator-Mansfield/Richland County Public Library

Pay Grade: 30 Location: Main Library
POSITION SUMMARY: Under broad supervision of the Deputy Director, the Adult Services Coordinator plans, coordinates implements and supervises programs and services of the Adult Services (including Teen), Reference, and Audiovisual Services Departments, the Computer Lab and the Sherman Room.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited institution required
2. 3-5 years professional experience, including supervisory, reference services and public services responsibilities
3. Current knowledge of reference sources, in print and online; and experience with providing reader’s advisory and reference services
4. Understanding of the principles, theories, concepts, and functions of a public library and library administration
5. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and a professional, courteous, and approachable demeanor.
6. Strong analytical ability, problem solving and project development skills
7. Excellent organizational skills, including attention to detail and accuracy
8. Working knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System.
9. Public speaking skills
10. Favorable results from pre-employment background check.
11. Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record and current vehicle insurance
12. With reasonable accommodation, engage in intermittent periods of sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, stretching, lifting and carrying equipment and materials weighing 40 – 60 pounds or more and pushing loaded book trucks weighing 75-100 pounds or more.
13. Ability to work flexible schedule, including days, evenings and weekends.

ESSENTIAL TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Coordinate, supervise, implement and evaluate staff and services for Adult Services including Teen, Computer Lab, and Audiovisual Services departments
2. Maintain current detailed knowledge of Adult Services and Audiovisual Services programs including Computer Lab and Sherman Room
3. Meet and communicate frequently with Deputy Director, AV Services Manager and Computer Lab Manager on all issues and together set goals/develop objectives for the department
4. Participate in budgetary planning and monitor spending of moneys in Adult and AV department
5. Work with Volunteer Coordinator to plan and implement adult programs at Main Library; cooperate with other locations in planning system-wide programs
6. Select and update all databases for the Library
7. Interpret Library policy and procedure to staff and public as appropriate
8. Serve as a member of the Management Team and work cooperatively with the Director on matters of Library policy, procedures and plans
9. Develop and implement in-house training programs in collaboration with other managers and employees to meet organizational needs
10. Work with Collection Development Administrator to assist in development and maintenance of department collections, including online sources
11. Compile and maintain statistical data.

ADDITIONAL TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Work at Adult Services and Audiovisual Services desks as needed
2. Attend meetings as scheduled by the Director and Deputy Director
3. Adhere to, support and effectively implement Administration and Board policy, procedures and core values
4. Attends Staff Development Day, workshops, seminars, and conferences, as appropriate.
5. Hold regular meetings for Adult Services staff members
6. Participate in community and professional organizations, serving as a representative of and advocate for the Library
7. Maintain an awareness of developments and changes in the profession through professional reading and meetings/committee/Board involvement
8. Performs additional duties and assignments, as required by the upward chain of command, which moves from the Adult Services Coordinator to the Deputy Director, to the Director.
